| We give an example in which the Glimm estimate for a strictly hyperbolic system of two conservation laws is violated. We also consider the p-system and under the assumption that the initial data have small oscillation but not necessarily small total variation, we reproduce the Glimm-Lax type estimates with greater accuracy. |
