| Title: | “Everything you wanted to know about Online Instruction in the Math Department but were afraid to ask” |
| Seminar: | Teaching Seminar |
| Speaker: | John Roe, Cheryl Hile, Pat Schulte, Russell deForest, Jim Hager, and virtually Stan Smith, Penn State |
| Abstract: |
| The Vision from the (very) Big Office!
Is there an online course in your future?
What is the state-of-the art for online curriculum delivery in the Math Department?
Can we leverage some of the online delivery strategies in our day classes? If so, where do we begin?
How do we know that the online courses provide the same quality of instruction as the day courses?
Are these curriculum delivery models appropriate for our bread-and-butter courses – e.g. Math 140/Math141?
Please join us for an informal discussion of the Math Department’s current and planned vision for online
curriculum delivery, the different delivery models currently being used, the technologies used to administer
these courses, the lesson-learned, and the projected certification plans. Our overall goal is to make everyone aware
of these efforts, to discuss where the day instruction could potentially leverage some of these ideas, and to provide
models for potential use in other course transitions efforts to on-line formats. |
