| Title: | An Overview of Least Squares Finite Elements and Problems with Singularities |
| Seminar: | CCMA Luncheon Seminar |
| Speaker: | Chad Westphal, Wabash College |
| Abstract: |
| In this talk we give a brief overview of the range of choices inherent in designing a finite element method for approximating the solution of partial differential equations. In particular, the least squares finite element method is an approach that casts the problem as a minimization, and can have many advantages to more traditional approaches. One particular difficulty, however, is an increased sensitivity to the regularity of the PDE, and we'll also briefly highlight a few problems with singular solutions. |
