| Title: | Non-trivial cohomology and perturbations of group actions. |
| Seminar: | Center for Dynamics and Geometry Seminar |
| Speaker: | Danijela Damjanovic, Rice University |
| Abstract: |
| It is often the case that infinitesimal rigidity of a discrete group action (trivial first cohomology) implies local differentiable rigidity of the action. The first cohomology for continuous group actions is non-trivial, yet in cases when it is finite dimensional and well understood it influences the local structure about the action (classical example: Diophantine vector fields on tori). I will present a general result describing perturbations of actions with non-trivial cohomology. Degenerate cases of the result may give strong local rigidity, or only a perturbative result for families of actions. I will describe some potential applications where these different forms of the theorem may apply. |
