| An ergodic volume preserving diffeomorphism is stably ergodic if any (sufficiently smooth) approximation of it is also ergodic. The stable ergodicity of uniformly hyperbolic diffeomorphisms was proved by Anosov in the 60's. In the 90's, Grayson, Pugh and Shub have shown a new class of stably ergodic examples. These examples are partially hyperbolic and, Pugh and Shub conjectured that most partially hyperbolic systems are stably ergodic. We plan to describe what is known about the Pugh-Shub conjecture and some related problems. |
