| We develop an explicit multirate time integration scheme for split barotropic-baroclinic ocean circulation models. We use an iteration scheme to decouple the barotropic and baroclinic variables and an explicit Galerkin method with different time steps to solve numerically. We derive an error equation that consists of computable leading order terms and provably higher order expressions. |
