| Title: | Multiholomorphic Maps into G_2 Manifolds |
| Seminar: | GAP Seminar |
| Speaker: | Aaron Smith, University of Waterloo |
| Abstract: |
| I will discuss continuing recent work concerning the theory of
multiholomorphic maps. These are special maps between Riemannian
manifolds equipped with vector cross products which intertwine
geometric structures between the domain and target. A special case of
this theory is the well known theory of pseudoholomorphic curves. I
will discuss some of the fundamental analytic issues arising in this
theory and prospects/impediments for defining invariants similar to
those arising in the case of pseudoholomorphic maps. Special emphasis
will be devoted to a case involving maps of 3-manifolds into a
G_2-manifold target. This all has close connections to special
holonomy manifolds and calibrated geometry. |
