| Title: | Generalized cohomology theories twisted by higher classes |
| Seminar: | GAP Seminar |
| Speaker: | Hisham Sati, University of Pittsburgh |
| Abstract: |
| K-theory can be twisted by degree three cohomology classes.
The resulting twisted K-theory has many interesting connections to geometry,
topology, analysis, and physics. I will consider other generalized cohomology
theories and describe their twists, concentrating on two cases: topological
modular forms (tmf) twisted by degree four classes, and Morava K-theory
twisted by degree seven (and even higher) classes. I will highlight the
motivation and hints coming from physics, and propose a corresponding
geometric description. This is joint work with Matthew Ando and with Craig
Westerland. |
