The Mathematics Department has 55 tenure and tenure-track faculty, 41 instructors and lecturers (including teaching visitors), and postdocs (including Chowla Assistant Professors and Research Associates), 98 supported and 2 visiting graduate students, 281 Mathematics BS, 4 Mathematics BA undergraduate students and 18 BS undergraduate students with concurrent majors. Among the faculty there are a member of the National Academy of Science and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a member of the Royal Society, a member of the Royal Society of Canada, and a member of the Rumanian Academy of Sciences. Ten others have distinguished and endowed chairs. The Department is housed in the newly renovated McAllister Building on the University Park Campus, and it is one of the few in the nation with a physical laboratory where research and educational laboratory experiments are conducted.
